How to choose your wedding photographer?

Choosing your wedding photographer is an important decision. Not only will the images from this day be treasured for years to come, but your wedding photographer is going to be by your side on one of the most important days of your life! While I may be a little biased on who to hire, one of the most trusted sources of wedding planning, The Knot, shared a list of 10 Steps to Finding a Great Wedding Photographer. To make your homework a little easier, here’s what you need to know about AMW for each step of the way!

Step 1: Settle on a Style

I’m a fine art, bright and airy wedding photographer. I currently shoot all digital and edit to a Fuji Film look that has slightly bluer greens with creamy skin tones.

Step 2: Do Your Homework

Check out my portfolio and blog to see examples of my work. You have made it here so make sure to also check out my Instagram and Facebook.

Step 3: Set Up Interviews

Your wedding photographer will be up close and personal with you on your wedding day, so make sure it’s someone you’ll be comfortable with that will fit right in with your crew! I would love to meet you for a beer or coffee to get to know you and hear your love story. Then we can chat about all things wedding! If we can’t meet in person, I find that FaceTime works just as well!

Step 4: See a Few Full Wedding Albums

I’m happy to share full galleries with you so you can see all the images I capture – from the tiniest details to the largest landscapes. I know how important it is to a bride and groom to feel confident they’ll be getting all the images they want to remember their big day.

Step 5: Review Albums With a Critical Eye

As you review my portfolio and galleries, think about what feelings you want to remember from your wedding day. My goal is to capture every moment as naturally as possible, without too much staging. I want to show you the look in your groom’s eyes as you walk down the aisle, the happy tears on your mom’s face, and the pure joy of becoming husband and wife! I also include family portraits in my collections – these people are a big part of the wedding day!

Step 6: Make Sure Your Personalities Mesh

This is a big one! I’ll be with you lovebirds all day long, more so than anyone else. We have to get along and have fun together. I’ll be there to witness the most intimate, and sometimes weirdest, moments of the day. So you have to be comfortable with me around!

Step 7: Confirm Your Shooter

I’m always your main photographer on your wedding day! I have a plan B-D if something crazy happens, but it has NEVER happened. I prepare year round to make sure everything will work out! Your second shooter will be confirmed 2 months prior to your wedding date. Each and every one of the people I hand pick to work with are wonderful, talented photographers who share my style.

Step 8: Compare Packages

Every couple should shop around and make sure to find the right photographer for your big day. I want you to choose me because you can’t imagine anyone else being there to capture your wedding day. I’m here to answer any questions you have about what’s included in your photography package and what you can expect from working with me, so please ask!

Step 9: Ask About Your Rights

This can get a bit confusing, but it’s pretty simple. The images that are delivered to you are yours to use for personal purposes. That means you can print as many as you would like for home and gift purposes. You can also share images on Facebook and Instagram, just not with any additional filters and credit Ashleigh Miller Weddings social media. It is art produced by me, just curated by you and your team of vendors. I will always own the rights to the images captured that day for sharing on my blog, advertising, and in publications. I love when one of my weddings gets published, so keep a lookout for publications contacting you for interviews!

Step 10: Get the Post-production Details

Your images will be delivered within two months of the wedding. You can expect to receive approximately 700 – 1000 images from your Wedding. I’ll send you a link to a client portal where you have full digital rights to download and use all the images however you like. There’s also an option to order photo prints directly through the portal to make things easy! When you receive your images, I’ll also provide you with information and pricing on album design. Not only is this a great way for you to have tangible memories of your special day, but these make great gifts for your parents!
